Our Club

• On Tuesday April 26, 2002 at Nais Restaurant in Gran Plaza, Puerta Parada, being 8:00p.m.; we where invited to a reunion in which we were going to explore the possibility to form a new Rotary Club, among the 8 guest were Jorge Vallendor, John Bennet, Romeo Recinos and Renato Villalobos, that to date form part of our Club.   Luis Felipe Valenzuela, Paul Daugherty both past Governors from former District 424 talk about the wonders of Rotary, Raul Gonzalez President of the Guatemala Sur Club our sponsor, was sergeant at arms.
   

• After the third meeting we decided that breakfast was better and move the meetings to Tuesday 7:30 at the same place, in May the provitional board was formed, being elected

  • John Bennet as Vice President

  • Alvaro Del Busto as Secretary

  • Rodrigo Chávez as Treasure

  • Romeo Recinos as Sergeant at Arms
     

• We were them 13 Members, guided as always by Raúl González.

• The first meeting of the Board was at Alvaro Del Busto's home and there it was decided that the Club meetings will be  at

  • Quinta Real Hotel

  • Tuesday 7:00 a.m.

• On July were addressed all the Committees of Service, being the first project the Emergency Aid to the Survivors of a mud slade in El Paraíso, San Lucas Tolimán, Sololá, our Club was the first one to assist the victims and Francisco Arias, Community Service Chair, drove a truck full of clothes, food and other supplies to the Village, 150 Km from Guatemala City.     That's why our President was invited to join the Emergency Committee, formed by Rotarians and Private Foundations, since then he and our Club, have an active role in it.
   

• We also started the  "food for the needy" Project, in wish we collect and distribute food for foster homes and elderly homes, 1500 people in total,    The first reunion of the wives Committee was held on June and they pick up the good work and continues the project to date with the help from our Rotaract Club.
   

• On August the forms were sent to RI with 21 members, and in October Jorge Aufranc Governor elect, inform us that since OCTOBER 8 WE WERE OFFICIALLY MEMBERS OF  ROTARY INTERNATIONAL.  
   

• On November 26 in a special ceremony  Juan Ramón Sarmiento accompanied by his wife Judith, hand us the Constitution Letter in the presence of several past governors, Guatemala Sur Club members and their wives, and all of our members and our wives.
   

• On January, Enrique Segarra becomes our First Paul Harris fellow and also we receive the visit of a Dental Team from District 5100, Oregon and carry out visits to two different Villages with the equipment They donned us, since we have an active Dental Program,  run by Dr. Claudia de Erben and Dr. Claudia de Nuñez from the Wives Committee.
   

• In Our regular meetings, we have the first Tuesday of each month for Club Assembly, the second and third we have guest speakers and the fourth is for friendship among the members. Hope you will visit us soon!!!
